Hank became a naturalized Canadian on Dec. 6, 1926 and attended Connaught School. He joined the Prince Albert Volunteers on March 16, 1942 and was transferred to Vernon, BC and joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment and was made Seregeant. From there he was overseas and upon his arrival back in Canada he served as a small arms instructor in Nanaimo, BC, Long Branch, Ontario and Camp Shilo, Manitoba, before going back to England. He was discharged on January 17, 1946
Hank started a painting and decorating business with a partner. Haylor and Hogeweide Painting and Decorating. He served as an alderman for 8 years in the late 1950's and early 1960's in Prince Albert. There is a street called Hogeweide Crescent in Crescent Heights in his honor as an alderman. He was also the President and Life member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. For the last 12 years of his life he was the Caretaker for the Senior Citizens residence at 700 River Street East. He won awards for the best kept grounds for several years, plus both of them were highly regarded by the residents there.
