Marriage Certificate from Jan 1903, gives profession as Merchant Seaman. His father was James Way, Deceased. His occupation was a General Laborer.
Alfred disappeared just after their second child Alfred was born, we believe because he was in trouble with the police. Alfred was a seaman and we were told he went to Canada, he did come back for Mary some time around 1910-12 but because Nan was living with Hopkins and they already had a child he gave her some money and went back to Canada.

Alfred Way was Mary Ann Keens first husband, I have been unable to find his death in the GRO indexes. But being a merchant seaman he may have been killed at sea?if so there would be no GRO record of him. Fred Keens Linda's father and his brothers are adamant that Mary Ann's husband to their knowledge was Charles Hopkin. At present I have been unable to find the marriage of Mary Ann and Charles in the GRO indexes. Linda's mother Maisie is also adamant about Charles Hopkin. Maisie convinced me and I would trust her knowledge and memory.
Below is information from Elsie Hopkins Grandaughter of Mary Ann Keens. This solves the above mystery
