a lady in waiting to Marie Antoinette.
Escaped to England at some time during the French Revolution. She was reputedly a lady of title, possibly Belgian.
One story is that she was smuggled aboard a fishing boat, dressed in fishermen's clothes, and that her brother, Peter DE LA Roche, a member of the King's Guard , was not so lucky and was captured and guillotined.
At some point, she was known as the "widow TONDEUR" and then after she married a Richard Kenning. -- Caroline Scott research
Believed to be a cousin of Pierre Simon de la Roche, then his mistress. Later she married Kenning
Marie was engaged as the governess to raise Louis (an infant smuggled out of France into England by Pierre and his wife).
Pierre and Marie Celestine had a baby together - Mary Celestine de la Roche.
Marie Celestine raised Louis along with her own child.
